Who to Punch?
Each release in the franchise introduces new characters which either become staples in the series or are quickly forgotten about. Due to this, I take a look at the new bruisers in Street Fighter 6 to see if they are destined for greatness.
Jamie
A master of the Drunken Fist, Jamie is a fantastic addition to the roster. With a swig of alcohol, you can deliver more powerful moves which adds an interesting twist to combat. He is visually interesting and carries enough personality to feel distinct yet believable which helps him fit in with the World Warriors. Those who enjoy flashy, acrobatic fighters should definitely check him out.
Manon
Speaking of style, Manon is the personification of this. A model, dancer and judo champion, every move that she performs has grace and elegance. In an almost ballroom battle, she pirouettes her way to violence making her a wonderful, unique character. Possibly my favorite of the new additions, Manon is one that should definitely be around for years to come.
Kimberly
Kimberly is the most colorful and visually impressive character on the roster. Learning from her master, Guy, she combines Ninjitsu and street art. With her spray paint in hand, she can dash across the screen and deliver quick combos in the blink of an eye. Her vibrant moves are beautiful to observe and her mannerisms ooze personality.
Marisa
A giant of a woman, Marisa is a devastating striker from Italy. Due to her size, she is not the fastest character but she counters that with brute power. Her Spartan aesthetic is a little silly, especially with her hair mimicking a helmet, however, her move-set is interesting with charge abilities that differentiate her from other large characters. While there are interesting aspects to her, I can’t see Marisa becoming a major player in the franchise.
Lily
In complete contrast to Marisa, Lily is a petite girl and a descendant of the Thunderfoot tribe. Due to this, she bears similarities to T. Hawk with diving attacks and slams. She also fights with weapons that she can use to build wind-based boosts. She is a great spin on a classic archetype, however, I’m not sure if there is room for both characters in the future.
JP
JP is a wealthy, elderly gentleman who sports an incredible, albeit quite evil, look. With the ability to summon a strange purple power, he is a unique character who is very likely to garner a cult following. The series has had its fair share of hit-and-misses with villains but JP has the potential to be the next antagonist for years to come.Â
Street Fighter 6 is shaping up to have the greatest roster in the franchise. While there are some key players missing, the new characters definitely fill that void. With A.K.I, Rashid, Ed and Akuma already confirmed as the first batch of DLC, the future of the game looks promising.
Do you think these characters will stand the test of time? Who would you like to see join the crew in future DLC? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook or Twitter, and don’t forget to subscribe to us on YouTube for more great video game content.
