What Exactly Can You Personalize in Hot Wheels Unleashed?

Customization Is Still Kind of a Mystery

Hot Wheels is known for its variety. The variety of track shapes, accessories, stunts, and collections, not to mention all the cars. Not only have Hot Wheels made cars of different shapes, like muscle cars, cement trucks, hotdog cars, and sports cars, but they have also partnered with big name brands for licensed cars like Batman, Barbie, Aston Martin, and Street Fighter.

You can expect all that variety to come to the upcoming Hot Wheels Unleashed personalization, as we have seen in previous trailers. Today, Milestone released a customization trailer for the game, but it is still kind of unclear exactly how in control players will be in that respect.

The tracks look like there are almost no limits to how detailed and unique players can make them. With elements like loops, magnetic tracks, and jumps, you can expect a deep library of community content.

When it comes to customizing the cars, the designs in the trailer look more like skins than anything. Is that customization or just cosmetics? It’s assumed that there will be a ton of cosmetics, but can players actually personalize their cars with unique designs or just recolor the skins?

Players can also personalize their Basement, which is a location for some of the tracks, but again, it looks like there are just preselected combinations of patterns and colors. If there is a car editor, we would like to see it in action rather than just see the final products, you know? To see the scope of what we are in for.

If the customization is on the less detailed end of things, will it be a deal-breaker for players? Maybe not. As long as the racing is good that should be enough, right? Hot Wheels Unleashed will be available on September 27th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
