You Like Us, You Really Like Us, Dood!
NIS Software has had a bit of a rough time in the past, which might be why Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny is the only mainline Disgaea game without a fancy animated intro sequence–so far, anyway. However, the hard times appear to be over, as Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny has been warmly embraced by strategy RPG fans everywhere and especially by established fans of the series.
If you don’t believe us, we invite you to check out this accolades trailer shared by the official NIS America YouTube account. Not only is it full of adorable chibi 3D models, but it’s also packed with direct quotes from people saying nice things about the game.
The trailer consists largely of CGI special move cutscenes taken straight from the game’s battles, complete with the associated voice lines. Zed is shown off performing his Lightning Strike technique first, of course–he’s the protagonist, so he gets top billing.
Next up is the Evil Eye, a cow-like demon reminiscent of a reverse minotaur sporting a bovine lower body and arms. She’s shown performing her Overrun special, which involves stampeding back and forth across the battlefield, trampling everyone in her path.
Following that, the game’s main antagonist, the God of Destruction whose destiny is the one Zed is determined to defy, gets a chance in the spotlight. This towering behemoth is shown punching Zed into the ground so hard that a huge shockwave begins to consume the planet. The funniest part of that is that this probably happened in canon at some point during Zed’s endless loops.
Afterward, the series’ poster boy Laharl, Makai Wars’ rogue protagonist Asagi, and several other characters including a Prinny get a chance to show off their stuff. All the while quotes from various news outlets flash by on the screen, sharing all the nice things people have been saying about Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. We have to say, this trailer is almost as fun as the game itself.
Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny is now available on Nintendo Switch.
