Crashing Onto PS5 in February
Destruction AllStars is following in the footsteps of other PlayStation games and coming straight to PlayStation Plus, for free. Historically, this can be a big success: surely nobody was expecting the meteoric rise of Fall Guys and its continued massive success, but it feels like every PlayStation owner has a copy of the game – and a deep-seated hatred for See Saw.
Destruction AllStars is a vehicular combat sim with a heavy multiplayer focus, and in the state of play we learn some new information about the upcoming game.
- Three common vehicle types focused on speed, agility, and heavy vehicles.
- Sixteen characters, each with their unique hero ability and hero vehicle. The video focuses on Shyft – who can turn invisible – and Pita – an offensive focused driver who leaves a trail of fire behind her as she runs or drives.
- If your car is destroyed you need to survive until you can get another, but luckily you have an array of traversal skills to help you do that, such as wall-running, double jumping, or vaulting. You can even attempt to take over an opponent’s car while it’s in motion, or else destroy it.
We also know that we’re getting four game modes at launch:
- Mayhem – a classic Destruction Derby style mode
- Carnado – Collect points by wrecking your opponents’ cars, then bank them by wrecking your own in the tornado at the centre of the field. Do you risk it for the big bucks or play it safe? Well, that’s up to you.
- Stockpile – Collect gears and take control of the banks by depositing more gears than your opponent
- Gridfall – Wreck your opponents and force them out of the match as the ground gradually falls away, shrinking the arena beneath you.
The game also brings the Challenge series – smaller single-player stories that pit characters against their rivals as they vie to come out on top.
I’m not a racing fan, but Destruction AllStars looks like… well, Fall Guys with cars, and if anything’s going to get me interested in a game like this it’s the ability to cause havoc.
Will we be seeing you in the arena? Let us know in the comments, on Twitter, or on Facebook.
