Game Pass Streaming Stick Coming Soon?
During a recent interview, executive vice-president of Gaming at Microsoft Phil Spencer hinted that Game Pass subscribers may eventually be able to stream their favorite games through a streaming stick. Without openly stating Microsoft is working on a streaming stick, Phil Spencer claimed that xCloud could be streamed to the TV through such a device, requiring only a controller to play through the extensive Game Pass lineup. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate brings the Game Pass lineup to Xbox One, PC, and Android through Project xCloud at $15 per month.
“You could imagine us even having something that we just included in the Game Pass subscription that gives you an ability to stream xCloud games to your television and buying a controller,” said Phil Spencer during a recent interview. Google Chromecast and Amazon Firestick both turn average TV’s into streaming machines, and it’ll be interesting to see what a Game Pass TV stick would do. Considering many TV’s have USB, it would be awesome if both the Xbox Game Pass lineup and the PC Game Pass lineup were represented on this theoretical streaming stick.
Game Pass recently came to mobile devices through Project xCloud and it looks like Phil Spencer and Microsoft are looking at other ways to use the power of xCloud to allow Xbox fans to play games where they want to. Google Stadia uses the Chromecast Ultra to access its catalog of games, releasing as a flop rather than the future of gaming. Phil Spencer talked specifically about cheaper devices, meaning this streaming stick could get people gaming at a budget price and it may eventually be included in the membership.
