Netflix Are Working Hard to Become the New Home for the Series
It feels like the movie series just ended, but we already have a new Netflix series in the works about Wesker’s kids and a reboot of the movie franchise, reportedly starring Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario as Chris and Claire Redfield, in the works, but don’t count out the series of CGI films based on the franchise, as Netflix Portugal unwittingly released (and almost immediately deleted prior to today’s official announcement by Capcom) a tweet revealing Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, a new CGI series.

Story details are thin on the ground at this point, but if the CGI movies are anything to go by it’ll stick closer to the game canon than the previous Live-action Resident Evil films. We may also see some characters from the games that we haven’t seen in a while make an appearance – after all, Rebecca Chambers didn’t turn up in any canon games after Resident Evil 0, and that game’s co-star Billy Coen hasn’t been mentioned at all since wandering off into the Arklay Mountains.

Story details are thin on the ground but given that the previous films have struck a fine line between inventing new viruses and diseases, like the A-Virus, and incorporating the latest biological weapons introduced in the series, like Las Plagas, it’s possible that we could see the return of Resident Evil 7’s E-Type, a fungal infection capable of mind-control, advanced healing properties, and causing hallucinations. Given that Resident Evil 7 at first seemed to take the series in a supernatural direction the name Infinite Darkness is certainly fitting, although at this point Claire and Leon are seasoned veterans so you can expect that whatever direction the film goes in they’ll face a challenge worthy of them.
