Thunder Lotus’ Upcoming Game, Spiritfarer, Is A Heartwarming Game About Death
Indie studio Thunder Lotus, makers of the critically-acclaimed action-adventure game Jotun, will be hosting a Reddit AMA on June 18 about their upcoming game, Spiritfarer. Participants are welcome to ask anything they would like about the game and its production, or about the team itself. The AMA event is part of the Steam Summer Games Fest.
The game itself, which Thunder Lotus characterizes as “a cozy management game about dying”, will release sometime in 2020 on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It’s probably fair to say that description is unusual and at least a little bit intriguing — after all, you don’t see “cozy” and “dying” together quite often, much less as part of the concept description for a management game!
In Spiritfarer, playing as Stella, a Spiritfarer and ferrymaster of the deceased, you’ll be sailing around the world while tending to your spirit passengers before they pass on to the afterlife. Between fishing, cooking, harvesting, and crafting, you’ll probably end up befriending a few spirits. Even though you’ll inevitably say goodbye in the end, the memories of the journey are here to stay.
In two-player co-op mode, Stella will be joined by Daffodil the cat.
Sounds interesting? You can learn more about the game on its official site or Steam page and submit questions for the Thunder Lotus team ahead of their AMA session here.
“Connecting with our awesome fans is always a huge boost for us, and opportunities to do so have been few and far between in the time of Covid-19,” Spiritfarer Creative Director Nicolas Guérin said in the press release. “We’re looking forward to telling everyone how we’ve been getting on and to answer any questions they may have during the AMA.”
