The Witcher: Total War is Now in Development For Medieval 2

Build Empires Instead of Killing Monsters

Medieval 2: Total War is home to some of the best mods that the infamous strategy franchise has to offer. Mods that cover the Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones universes are both available. And they are nothing to shrug at either. The Lord of the Rings mod, in particular, is regarded as one of the best ever made with a total overhaul of the units and map. Really creating one of the most immersive experiences out there. This is what the creators of Witcher: Total War are hoping to pull off as well.

While the books and official video games mainly focus on the interpersonal aspects of Geralt or Ciri the Total War mod is obviously going to be thinking about the big picture. Building powerful armies and empires is going to be the name of the game. Not building strong connections to characters. If you are hoping to find a narrative-driven game in Witcher: Total War then you should probably look elsewhere.

While the first version of this mod is going to start out relatively small, the developers are hoping to have 29 playable factions along with the full world to explore and conquer. Monsters will not be featured in battles themselves but they will serve some sort of function in the campaign. However, Witchers themselves will act as their own individual units on the battlefield. Apparently the creators of the mod have taken a lot of inspiration from Gwent, so there will be no shortage of units or characters to use and see.

Progress on this ambitious mod is slow so don’t expect to see it available for a little while. In the meantime, you can watch the TV show and play the games to satiate your Witcher fix.
