Ubisoft Continues to Tease New Splinter Cell Game

We Can Only Take So Much Teasing

The much-beloved spy franchise Splinter Cell has been dormant for six years. The last Splinter Cell game came out in 2013, and since then there has been total silence. Fans have been patiently waiting for the next installment in the series for what has seemed like forever. Ubisoft has not been shy about teasing or playing with the hearts and minds of fans either. It feels like every couple months or so, Ubisoft toys with the idea of releasing a new Splinter Cell game. But so far nothing has come to fruition.

As the life-spans of the Xbox One and PS4 wind-down, it is very unlikely we will see Sam Fisher and company make a return any time soon. If it is going to happen it will most likely take place in 2021 and beyond. There would be no point in releasing a game now, just for it to be obsolete less than a year later.

The most recent tease has come from Ubisoft Spain. Earlier today they tweeted out a picture of Sam Fisher and his iconic three-eyed night vision goggles. The caption under the tweet was obviously in Spanish but a quick and probably inaccurate Google translate tells us that it says,  “You need to understand the darkness to face it…” Very spooky indeed.

The good news is that at least Ubisoft Spain is talking about Splinter Cell. The bad news is that this does not appear to be part of any coordinated marketing campaign. There is going to be an Xbox conference on the 14th of November. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get ahold of more information then.

In the meantime, you could always start up Splinter Cell: Blacklist until another game is announced.
