Too Big for Their Britches
Any The Last of Us fan has been keeping up with the recent news about the upcoming sequel and no doubt know about the distinct lack of multiplayer. Though Factions Mode was quite popular in the first game, it grew just too big for the second game and was removed. While The Last of Us Part 2 multiplayer might be cancelled, it may take a different form sometime down the line. Do you believe in reincarnation? Because Factions Mode may exist outside the confines of a main series installment.
Last night, developer Naughty Dog released a statement on Twitter addressing the upset over the missing multiplayer mode in the upcoming game. It spoke of the enormous single player campaign they have made and an equally enormous Factions Mode. It was too big to include with the main game, so it was cancelled. “However, you will eventually experience the fruits of our team’s online ambition, but not as part of The Last of Us Part II. When and where it will be realized is still to be determined. But rest assured, we are as big a fan of Factions as the rest of our community and are excited to share more when it’s ready.”

So, it sounds like it’s getting a Fortnite: Battle Royale type deal where it’s a standalone multiplayer game. Obviously, Naughty Dog said they still haven’t decided what Factions will really be yet, but it hasn’t been completely scrapped, just re-purposed. The Last of Us Part 2 (sans Factions Mode) will launch on February 21st, 2020 exclusively on PS4.
Are you happy Factions will still exist in some form? Let us know in the comments below.
