How Cross Platform Play Will Work in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Pay Attention, This is Important

The next Call of Duty is only weeks away now. Soon Modern Warfare is going to take the gaming community by storm. It will be the talk of the town for the foreseeable future. There are many new features that will be added to the franchise. Realistic recoil on weapons and intense tactical gameplay just to name a few. However, the biggest thing that is coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the promise of cross-platform play. It has been talked about steadily for some time but the details have remained fairly hazy. So let’s clarify.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Gunfight Alpha

Players on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One will all be able to play with one another. To do this you’ll need to create a Call of Duty account. This is pretty much identical to any other account that games make you have in order to get access to more advanced features. All you’ll need is an email address and a little bit of patience. This account will also allow you to create friends list and parties amongst the three different platforms.

The cross-platform play has been balanced so that mouse and keyboard players don’t play against people who are using controllers. This is going to be determined by a filter. This is in place to ensure that there isn’t an unfair advantage given to PC players when playing with console gamers. So if you own a PC and want to play with your friends on the Xbox One or PS4, you’ll need to pick up a controller to plug into your PC.

If you want to get a taste of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, then make sure to download the free beta that is available this coming weekend. After September 23rd you’ll have to wait until release to play.
