So Says Ubisoft CEO
One thing we haven’t learned much about till now is Google Stadia. Beyond price plans and game lists, the nuts and bolts of the streaming service is still largely a mystery. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot is confident we’re all overestimating the workload, however. Apparently getting games on Google’s service is a lot easier than we’re all assuming.
During a recent earnings call, Guillemot stated that “The extra cost to put to make sure the games work well on Stadia is not that high” It seems that so long as you have a good relationship with Stadia, it won’t be difficult at all to get games onto the service. This makes sense coming from Ubisoft, as they already have a pretty good relationship with Google.
Fans will recall the time Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was made available on an early version of the service known as Project Stream. This suggests that Ubisoft has had some time to get acquainted with Google’s guts and/or streaming capabilities. Even beyond the Assassin’s Creed experiment, it’s clear that the process is made pretty simple with a PC version of the game in question. Whether companies will have similar success with a console port remains to be seen.
