Microsoft Has Plans of Bringing the Xbox Game Pass to All Devices
Recently there’s been a lot of talk on webinar platforms about Microsoft’s plan to bring the Xbox Game Pass to the Nintendo Switch and now it seems like they don’t just want to stop there. In a recent interview, Phil Spencer says they want to bring the Game Pass to every possible device.
In a new interview with Geekwire, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer talked about the company’s big plans for the Xbox Game Pass. As it turns out, they’re hoping to bring the service to every console on the market, including the PS4. “We want to bring Game Pass to any device that somebody wants to play on. Not just because it’s our business, but really because the business model allows for people to consume and find games that they wouldn’t have played in any other space.”
Now despite a recent poll suggesting that approximately 25% of gamers would be willing to buy a Switch just to play games via the Game Pass, there are still some critics that suggest Microsoft’s plan to bring the service to every device will have a negative impact on the Xbox hardware sales. While that may be a bit of a concern, it seems the big money is not in the hardware sales, but rather in the software sales. Spencer addressed the critics concerns stating, “That is not where you make money. The business inside of games is really selling games, and selling access to games and content in means like that is the fundamental business. So if you open it up, the more often people can play, the more they’re enjoying the art form. It increases the size of the business.”
It’s not hard to imagine the type of profit expanding the market for the Xbox Game Pass Microsoft would be raking in. From releasing the popular service on other consoles, PC, and mobile devices, there’s so much untapped potential for the Game Pass that it’s hard to argue with the logic here.
