Public Trials Are Scheduled to Start in 2019
A new Xbox streaming service called “Project xCloud” was officially announced on Monday. The upcoming service aims to allow its users to stream Xbox games on “any device” of their choosing, according to Microsoft.
“Today, the games you play are very much dictated by the device you are using,” said Kareem Choudhry, a Microsoft executive, in the official announcement. “Project xCloud’s state-of-the-art global game-streaming technology will offer you the freedom to play on the device you want without being locked to a particular device, empowering you, the gamers, to be at the center of your gaming experience.”
According to Choudhry, current & future Xbox games will be compatible with Project xCloud “with no additional work” required on the part of game developers. For those who don’t want to play with an Xbox One controller or keyboard, the service will have an optional touch input controls with “a new, game-specific touch input overlay”.
Project xCloud will be supported by datacenters that are located in 54 Azure regions and service 140 countries. Also, the streaming service will work on both 4G and 5G data networks.
