Microsoft Might Build Their Own God of War
Over at The Initiative, Microsoft’s new first-party studio, the big company has recruited several industry veterans to serve as key staff. Among them is Brian Westergaard, formerly Senior Managing Producer for Narrative and Animation for God of War at Sony Santa Monica. He will be a major player in the development of new Xbox exclusive titles.
Westergaard will be accompanied by veteran talent from other high-profile studios, including Annie Lohr (Respawn Entertainment), Blake Fischer (Microsoft), Christian Cantamessa (Rockstar), Daniel Neuburger (Crystal Dynamics), and Lindsey Mcqueeney (Crystal Dynamics). Considering each of their individual portfolios, this seems like no small investment on the part of Microsoft. Obviously, the company is building a budget for the best. Understandable since Xbox One is behind PlayStation 4 in the realm of first-party AAA games, and why Microsoft company acquired new studios this past E3.
Speaking of Westergaard, his portfolio of critically acclaimed IP includes God of War and Rise of the Tomb Raider. His work on the former may have caught the eye of Microsoft, who are looking to create a console seller of their own. God of War has gone on record as the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive, and we’ve yet to see any Microsoft IP match that level of success. Further, we know the company is thinking carefully about next-generation titles – a new Xbox has practically been announced. There’s only one question left: what kind of game will The Initiative develop?
