Here Comes the Kraken in the Open-World MMO
There has been a lot of talk lately about Sea of Thieves, thanks to the beta. But most especially, it’s been a huge topic since the latest announcement from Xbox Game Pass. More Xbox One players are hopping on to the nautical bandwagon, and the gameplay details have only enticed more. Well, it’s about to get more enticing with the latest leak.
One of the more interesting aspects of Sea of Thieves, the Kraken boss battle, has largely remained a mystery. Developer Rare has been very hush-hush about some of the gameplay elements, but new images have surfaced online showing the underwater horror. Revealed first via ResetEra, we have our very first glimpse of the Kraken boss battle.
As stated by Sea of Thieves Design Director Mike Chapman, in an interview with Windows Central, the Kraken’s AI is responsive to player engagement. The sea beast will develop strategies for defeating players, and it will use all 8 tentacles in battle. Meaning, it will strike from different directions. Since the Kraken serves as a random encounter, you and your crew(s) may want to have strategies in place for fighting the monster.
Naturally, you’ll earn just rewards if you overcome this obstacle, but the only way to beat the Kraken may be to team up with other pirates in the area. This is part of what Sea of Thieves is so dynamic; you never know what the hell is going to happen, so it may not be a good idea to piss off every sailor in the game. That’s the Kraken’s job.
Sea of Thieves arrives on March 20th and will be available in the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Stay tuned for updates leading up to release. And, if you have not done so already, check out “The Worst Pirates You’ve Ever Heard Of.”
Happy gaming.
