2017’s Top 10 Most Disappointing Games
2017 has been a fantastic year for the gaming industry, however, there has also been a fair share of games that were just straight up disappointing. In comparison to the heavy hitters of the year, including Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or Horizon Zero Dawn, there are 10 stand out titles that simply failed to make a good lasting impression.
It’s important to note that this list doesn’t reflect the WORST games of 2017 overall but rather the ones that disappointed us the most. It’s also worth mentioning that some of these titles even scored well with our reviewers but is not necessarily indicative of the staff as a whole. So what are they? Read on.
10 – For Honor
For Honor is a game that started with so much promise. Featuring a unique style of multiplayer and an interesting combat system, it just failed to gain any significant traction. Much like Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege, there were plenty of things that needed fixing at launch. From consistent bugs and terrible player connections, many who simply wanted to delve into the game were unable to do so. Despite Ubisoft’s efforts to patch the issues, just two short weeks after release the player count dropped by 50%. Unfortunately, a game that had so much going for it simply faded into the background and has yet to make any sort of comeback. Of course, considering its quick decline, it’s unlikely it will ever be able to do so.
9 – WWE 2K18
Fans of the series were looking for something new and innovative from WWE 2K18, and despite some big changes from last year, the newest title still suffers from some of the same problems that have plagued the series for years. In a year that has seen tons of graphical breakthroughs, WWE 2K18 is definitely not a standout. Even in comparison to other 2K games this year, WWE 2K18 simply doesn’t deliver in this aspect, and that’s downright disappointing. Then again, so is the port to the Nintendo Switch. What was supposed to be an exciting addition to the new console’s lineup, instead turned out to be a flop.
8 – Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 was set to be the best game in the series so far, yet its release in April didn’t live up to expectations. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 saw the addition of an open-world dynamic that is simply underwhelming, and the game honestly feels like an undercooked version of Call of Duty meets Far Cry. From multiple issues at launch, including lengthy load times on the PS4, to the complete lack of any multiplayer, it’s hard to get excited about a game that just hasn’t delivered. In fact, the multiplayer aspect of the game isn’t even going to launch until next month, nine whole months after launch!
