Could Battlefield Possibly Be Heading Back to WWII
Call of Duty: WWII has been a smash hit. As we told you yesterday, NPDโs report for November 2017 had Call of Duty: WWII as the top seller. So naturally, the next step for the Battlefield franchise is to head back to WWII, right? Well, the franchise certainly seems poised to do just that.
Following the success of Battlefield 1, the series skipped 2017. Aside from some DLC, itโs been a quiet year for EAโs juggernaut franchise. So needless to say, we anticipate something big is coming in 2018.
Recently, rumors spread that the Battlefield: Bad Company sub-series may be making a return, but those rumors have since been cast into doubt. According to Eurogamer, sources close to Battlefield developer DICE say Bad Company 3 has been considered, but the game isnโt currently in development.
The original source of the Bad Company 3 rumors, YouTuber AlmightyDaq, is still partially standing by his story, saying there are actually a pair of Battlefield games in the works. He says:
โThere are two games. Iโm aware that DICE Swedenโs game is WWII. Thatโs what my next video is about. The [Bad Company game] I leaked is [being made by] DICE LA.โ
According to AlmightyDaq, DICE Sweedenโs World War II game will be our 2018 Battlefield entry. Bad Company 3, which is said to be set during the Vietnam War, is aiming for some point further down the line. DICE LA used to be responsible for Medal of Honor and EAโs Lord of the Rings games, but in recent years theyโve been a backup studio, developing DLC for DICE Swedenโs games. If Bad Company 3 is real (which is still a big โifโ), it will be interesting to see how they handle a full Battlefield game.
For the record, AlmightyDaq was one of the first to leak details about Battlefield 1โs setting, which is why people are taking the current information from him seriously. Weโll see how his credibility holds up.
Battlefield 1 is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The gameโs third expansion, Turning Tides, began rolling out on December 11.
