Hopefully, We’ll Still Get a US Release of that Sweet 3DS Dragon Quest XI
While we’ve known that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is bringing its open world, slimes, and Akira Toriyama art style from 3DS and PS4 to Switch in the future. It’s not a big surprise considering the 3DS features the old 16-bit art style on the bottom screen while a more 3DS-esque 3D graphics of the same events in the top screen. That sort of dual-screen wizardry would have been hard to replicate on the Switch. Some even jokingly speculated Dragon Quest XI would add one more art style when jumping to Switch.
As reported by Gematsu, it appears the Switch version of the massive JRPG will be harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 4. The news broke out at Epic Games Japan’s Unreal Fest East 2017 at Pacifico Yokohama Conference Center that happened over the weekend. At the event, Horii was asked whether he could talk about the Switch version being developed in Unreal Engine 4, to which Square Enix programmer Mitsuru Kamiyama replied, “you already said it!”
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is scheduled for a 2018 release for the West, but no confirmation yet on which platforms will we be getting here.
