Starr Mazer DSP Drops On Steam August 26th

Starr Mazer DSP Looks To Scratch That ShMup Itch

Playism has announced that the prequel to their anticipated Kickstarter title Starr Mazer will be releasing this month on Steam for Early Access. Starr Mazer is being touted as a hybrid of point and click and shoot ’em ups, but this prequel title, Starr Mazer DSP is pure side-scrolling action, and the trailer gives good reason to keep your eyes on this duo of digital goodness.

Starr Mazer DSP looks to scratch the itch of those who want a pure side-scrolling shoot-em up, throwing tons of enemies your way. Fortunately, you’ll be able to counter with some seriously impressive weaponry. Unlike the more traditionally difficult (Read: flat-out impossible) style of bullet hell games, Starr Mazer DSP looks to be going back to the roots of the genre, which is reason enough to be excited for it. The game will be coming out on Steam on August 26th, featuring just three of the nine planned levels, but Starr Mazer DSP promises an immense amount of replayability to make up for the bite-sized initial offering.

Playism wants the player to experience the same level multiple times, and each level will try to feel unique between a mix of different flight patterns and enemy placements. When players do get wiped out, they can continue to build their squadrons with fresh recruits, and the cast is definitely varied, to say the least. Players can recruit Humans, Aliens, and even Dogs with their own special ships and loadouts. There are also going to be special legendary pilots that you’ll be able to get your hands on. Perhaps the protagonist of Starr Mazer itself will make an appearance? I suppose we’ll have to just wait and see, in this case.

You can head over to Starr Mazer DSP’s Steam page, but if you’re feeling especially friendly, you can give the team some love on their Twitter, or even check out their Kickstarter for Starr Mazer itself, as it’s one of the fresher concepts that have come from the website, and one we have our eyes on here at COGconnected!
