3 Up, 3 Down – Three Amazing E3 2016 Trailers and Three That Disappointed

3 Up, 3 Down – E3 2016 Trailers Edition

That’s it folks. E3 is over and we can all sit back soaking in all we have engulfed over the past week. While E3 may be in the books, we here at COGconnected are furiously cranking out previews from all we saw at the show. We also felt it would be a good time for another edition of 3 Up, 3 Down – The E3 2016 Trailers (and Demos) Edition.

This was definitely one of the better E3’s as far as trailers are concerned. From Kratos amazing return to Dead Rising 4’s brilliantly sick and twisted Christmas tree trailer, publishers spared no expense when it came to delivering jaw dropping E3 trailers. In an era where we have played and seen it all, publishers have to pull out all the stops in order to create a buzz and many did just that. On the flip side, some publishers missed the mark.

Keep in mind this is by no means a definitive list. Anybody can come up with a list of the best trailers from the past week. As I found out, the real challenge comes in attempting to narrow the list down to three gems and three bottom of the barrel stinkers. I’m not going to lie, I agonized over this list and certainly opened myself up to some backlash. But this just makes the comments section fun, right?

Without further delay here are three E3 2016 trailers that had myself along with us COG staffers buzzing and three more trailers that shat the bed. Enjoy!

Three Brilliant E3 2016 Trailers

Dead Rising 4 (Xbox One)

It is sick and twisted but just so amazingly awesome. The Dead Rising 4 E3 trailer came out of nowhere and was one of the few surprises that came out of the Xbox E3 2016 press conference. In the trailer we see the return of the original game’s Frank West and he’s got with him a glut of new weapons at his disposal. Some of them even have a Christmas theme. With “Jingle Bells Rock” playing in the background, we see West annihilate zombies as only West can. Then he celebrates all his kills with a selfie and by lighting a Christmas tree filled with zombies on fire. It’s fantastic!

God of War (PS4)

I get this isn’t exactly a “trailer” and should really be considered a gameplay demo, but it was just so bloody good. How can we possibly leave out one of the most memorable videos we saw at E3 off our list? Well, it is my list and I am not taking it out. Now that I am done with my little hissy fit, lets talk about how Sony started its press conference with a bang by delivering a God of War PlayStation 4 gameplay demo. It is not what I expected at all and gives the game a new look and feel. Dare I say it but it gave the game a Dark Souls vibe. The God of War reboot looks further along than advertised so I would not be surprised at all if we get a release window soon. Check out the glorious demo one more time, it’s worth it.

Detroit Become Human (PS4)

Quantic Dream’s new game Detroit Become Human gave our entire E3 crew at the Sony press conference nerd boners. Okay ew, that is kind of nasty but you get the point. We were jacked (sorry I could not resist) about the trailer and is easily one the highlights from the PlayStation presser. Inspired by a short called “Kara” which debut back in 2012, Detroit is a thriller set in the near-future city of Detroit. Androids look exactly like human beings and have replaced humans in most tasks. The trailer we saw looked intense and received a unanimous vote from our staff to include this gem on this list.
