Uncharted 4: Petition to Remove Washington Post Review from Metacritic Gains Support

An Uncharted 4 petition to remove one review from Metacritic now has over 1,800 signatures

Change.org, an online petition website, started out back in 2007 to give average people a chance to “make change in their communities.” Well, we’re not sure if this qualifies, but one young man named Dimitris Xorikos has started a petition aimed at removing one review of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End from Metacritic. That’s right, there’s an Uncharted 4 petition on Change.org.

Uncharted 4 petition

The review in question is from the Washington Post, and was authored by Michael Thomsen. In the eyes of Xorikos (and, to be fair, a lot of other people), Thomsen’s review gave the game a review that seemed inexplicably-low (4/10), as well as being pretty harsh in its assessment of Uncharted 4 and the Uncharted series in general. That very low score was not just at odds with almost all other critics (scores of 90-100% for the majority), it lowered the game’s Metacritic score by a whole point.

To right this injustice, Xorikos’s petition wants Thomsen’s review removed from the Metacritic aggregate score. Claiming that the writer is “out of his mind,” Xorikos goes on to say that the low score is “a [sic] utter disgrace” and points out that the original review didn’t even give a score (which is true) and so the 4/10 shouldn’t count.

“I’m sorry but when having too much detail became a bad thing , this reviewer is out of his mind. I believe U4 is one of the greatest games ever created and it is my personal favorite for sure , although i can justify some reviewers giving it a 9 or an 8. But this is a utter disgrace. Gene , because you were the only respectable staff that responded to this nonsense , you should remove this review fro the metacritic , and post a new , sensible one that can justify its existence. Your Washington post for Christ’s Sake , not a 12-year-old’s diary. Treat the game with professionalism and respect.”

The Uncharted 4 petition has garnered over 1,800 signatures as of this writing. If it reaches a threshold of 2,500, it will be sent to Metacritic and The Washington Post. One person who would undoubtedly disagree with Thomsen’s score is our very own Doug Mercer – check out his review here.
