This Shadow of the Road Trailer Looks Straight Out of a Japanese Anime
Ever wondered what Shadow of the Road would look like as an anime? Another Angle Games and Owlcat Games have answered that question with a new action-packed trailer featuring Japanese hypermetal band Earthists. Packed with intense sword fights, character showcases, and an anime-style training montage, the trailer gives the upcoming tactical RPG a fresh dose of Japanese rock energy.
Set in an alternate version of 19th-century Japan, Shadow of the Road follows samurai-turned-rōnin Akira and Satoru after the Battle of Toba-Fushimi. The two warriors find themselves caught in a dangerous mission that draws them into the escalating conflict between the Emperor and the Shōgun. With gods, yōkai, and personal demons standing in their way, their journey promises plenty of supernatural chaos.
But there’s more to the adventure than flashy sword fights. Players will build a team of outcasts, each with their own motivations, fears, and personal struggles. The choices they make will shape relationships throughout the journey, potentially forging lasting bonds or tearing companions apart.
Combat is another major part of the experience, featuring turn-based tactical battles that reward smart positioning, strategic ability use, and careful planning. Each character brings unique skills to the battlefield, while their relationships and personal goals can influence how encounters play out.
Shadow of the Road is scheduled to launch on March 10, 2027. The new trailer makes a strong case for an anime adaptation, but fans will have to settle for the game for now. With supernatural samurai action and Earthists’ hard-hitting soundtrack, this title is shaping up to be one to watch for tactical RPG fans.
