Feel the Rhythm in Inpulse
Rhythm and precision platforming collide in Inpulse, a musical 2D platformer that just dropped a new demo as part of Steam Next Fest. Players can jump into its music-driven challenges now, ahead of the full game’s planned Q1 2027 launch.
Developed by Shelljump, Inpulse puts players in control of Flute, a fluttering character who turns musical notes into momentum. Collect an octave, play its notes, and launch Flute along different trajectories to navigate deadly spikes, energy fields, and bottomless pits. Every jump depends on timing, making each stage a test of both rhythm and reflexes.
The demo features the first two worlds, packed with handcrafted levels designed by a developer with 20 years of ROM hacking experience. Players will need to stay in sync with the soundtrack while navigating increasingly tricky obstacles, but accessibility features, including scrolling DDR-style inputs, help make demanding sequences easier to follow.
There’s more to Inpulse than simply reaching the finish line, too. An instant level editor lets players slow down the music to nail difficult sections or build entirely new stages of their own. Supported mod tools also open the door to community-created challenges, giving players plenty of room to experiment.
The full release is set to feature more than 220 handcrafted levels alongside custom community content, with players encouraged to share their creations and challenge others ahead of launch.
With its blend of music, challenging platforming, and creative tools, Inpulse looks like an interesting pick for players who enjoy games that demand precise timing. Its new Steam demo offers a chance to see whether you can keep the beat without taking a fatal plunge.
