Surviving the apocalypse just got a lot colder. SpaceRocket Games and publisher Toplitz Productions have officially launched Permafrost in Early Access on PC, bringing its unforgiving survival sandbox to Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
Set in a world devastated by a catastrophic event, Permafrost drops players into a frozen wasteland where every decision could mean the difference between life and death. Players take on the role of Rook, who sets out to find his long-lost friend Icarus while battling freezing temperatures, hostile wildlife, and rival factions fighting for control.
Players can face the frozen nightmare alone with their trusty dog companion or team up with up to three friends in co-op multiplayer. Survival means more than simply staying warm, though. You’ll need to hunt for food, scavenge valuable resources, craft weapons and protective gear, and establish shelters to survive the unforgiving wilderness.
Resource management also plays a major role, with limited inventory space forcing players to think carefully before heading out on an expedition. Those looking for greater rewards can venture into deadly cold zones, where extreme temperatures pose an even bigger threat but promise valuable loot for those who make it out alive.
The Early Access launch marks the beginning of Permafrost’s ongoing development. SpaceRocket Games has an extensive roadmap planned, with new content, gameplay improvements, and quality-of-life updates expected as the team gathers feedback from the community.
