New Features Are Arriving in Stones Keeper
Valkyrie Initiative and developer SK Team have announced Stones Keeper: Director’s Cut, a major free 2.0 update for the turn-based strategy RPG. The update will arrive on Steam on September 14, 2026, bringing a large-scale overhaul to the original game.
Developed alongside the upcoming sequel Stones Keeper II: Chaos Lord, the Director’s Cut will essentially remaster the original campaign using the improved engine created for the sequel. Players can expect revamped visuals, controls, progression, balance, gameplay systems, and story content.
The update will give every unit a complete set of animations, while unique characters will receive additional animations. Dialogue portraits, world map objects, the castle interior, and the main menu will also get the same treatment, making sure everything looks livelier than ever.
The story will receive an equally significant overhaul thanks to the update. The campaign’s dialogue and text have been rewritten, cutscenes have been redrawn, and the plot has been adjusted to better connect with Stones Keeper II while expanding the game’s world and history.
Gameplay is also getting plenty of new additions, including Zone of Control and Backstab mechanics, six unit progression levels instead of three, and 15 talents compared to the original nine. The developers will expand human faction equipment from one tier to three and rebalance the economy, resources, experience rewards, enemies, and several missions.
Players will also find new repeatable battles, three campaign mercenaries, additional reward chests, improved level designs, and four missions featuring Princess Elizabeth. Other changes include new pirate ships, earlier castle upgrades, and various ability and debuff adjustments.
For existing players, this free update looks like a substantial new way to experience Stones Keeper. The game is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
