Shroom and Gloom Will Enter Steam Early Access on 10 September

Eat Mushrooms and Smash Monsters in Shroom and Gloom

Devolver Digital and developer Team Lazerbeam have announced that their unusual first-person deckbuilder, Shroom and Gloom, will enter Steam Early Access on September 10.

The release date reveal also came with a new deep-dive video from Team Lazerbeam, giving players a closer look at the game’s strange combination of dungeon crawling, card-based combat, and mushroom munching.

Shroom and Gloom puts players in hand-drawn dungeons filled with grotesque fungal enemies. The game uses two separate decks, with the Explore deck handling things like unlocking, searching, breaking, feeding, and fixing objects, while the Combat deck focuses on fighting the creatures lurking in the depths.

Players can build increasingly powerful card combinations, with hundreds of cards available to upgrade and modify. Even basic cards can eventually become devastating attacks, while rare cards can be transformed into powerful weapons capable of completely changing a run.

The game’s mushroom theme also extends to its enemies. Players can skewer and roast defeated fungi, eat them to recover health, or throw them into a pot to create soups with useful effects.

With hand-drawn artwork blended with detailed 3D environments, Shroom and Gloom aims to offer a distinctive visual style alongside its roguelike gameplay.

Shroom and Gloom launches into Steam Early Access on September 10, while a demo is already available for players who want to get an early taste of its bizarre dungeon-crawling adventure.
