Worlds Upon the Wind Launches on Steam With a Peaceful Twist on Roguelite Deckbuilding

Shape a New Civilization in Worlds Upon the Wind

Indie developer Max Shawabkeh has officially launched its atmospheric roguelite deckbuilder Worlds Upon The Wind on Steam, bringing a more relaxing take on the genre to Windows, Linux, and Mac players. The game is now available for $9.99 with a 10% introductory discount until 30th July.

Rather than focusing on combat-heavy runs, Worlds Upon The Wind centers on rebuilding a shattered world made up of floating land fragments suspended in the clouds. Players travel between these “world shards,” using an evolving deck of cards to help communities resettle and thrive. Each shard offers different biomes, events, and challenges, and the world changes depending on the choices made during a run.

The game blends deckbuilding strategy with light narrative elements, asking players to solve social, economic, and personal problems through card and relic combinations. According to the developer, the main campaign lasts around 20 hours and gradually introduces new mechanics such as exploratory surveys, capital cities, landmarks, card crafting, animal companions, side quests, and more. Beyond the story, the game also includes an endlessly replayable endgame mode and multiple skill trees that unlock new abilities for future runs.

One of the most distinctive features is the presentation. The game uses real historical Japanese woodblock prints and painted scrolls, adapting them into a unified art style. An in-game art encyclopedia provides historical context for hundreds of pieces, while optional mini-games let players practice the Japanese language.

If you enjoy thoughtful strategy games and want something calmer than the usual roguelite experience, Worlds Upon The Wind looks like a surprisingly unique release worth checking out.
