Feel the Adrenaline in WHIPLASH
Indie developer Red Fox Studios has officially announced WHIPLASH, a fast-paced speedrunning FPS that puts a unique twist on the genre by letting players create wildly overpowered weapon builds. Alongside the reveal, the studio has also released a free Steam demo, giving players an early chance to test their skills and experiment with the game’s customizable loadout system before its full launch later this year.
Set in a world dominated by the Corps, a military superpower leading the charge in robotic warfare, WHIPLASH casts players as a REAPER, an elite combat unit trained to complete high-speed combat simulations using any tools available. Every course pushes players toward faster times by encouraging them to rethink their routes, weapons, and strategies with each attempt.
One of the game’s standout features is its weapon module system. Drawing inspiration from roguelike titles like Balatro, WHIPLASH allows players to combine different weapon mods to create powerful builds that dramatically alter how each gun behaves. The result is a gameplay loop focused on discovering creative combinations while shaving precious seconds off every run.
The newly released demo includes multiple courses, a variety of weapons, and plenty of modules to mix and match. Players can also climb Global, National, and Friends leaderboards by setting new personal bests.
When the full game launches later this year, WHIPLASH will expand with randomized maps, daily and monthly challenges, a progression-based campaign, unlockable weapons and items, and cosmetic rewards for dedicated players.
If the demo is any indication, WHIPLASH is shaping up to be an exciting blend of speedrunning, experimentation, and intense FPS action that fans of competitive time trials should keep an eye on.
