Build a Thriving Metropolis in Combolands
Crux Games has officially announced that Combolands, its upcoming mini roguelike citybuilder, will launch on PC via Steam on August 24. Developed by the two-person team of Skye Scott and Sam Alfred, the designer behind Terra Nil, the game expands on the ideas introduced in the studio’s Itch.io hit Tiny Towns, which has already attracted more than 100,000 views. The project also received support from Landfall, the publisher known for games like HASTE, Content Warning, and Peak.

Combolands blends city-building with roguelike mechanics, challenging players to create thriving cities on procedurally generated islands where no two runs are the same. Every building placement matters, as players can unlock powerful synergies and trigger massive combo chains to maximize their city’s growth. Despite its compact format, each session offers plenty of strategic depth and is designed to be completed in around 30 minutes.
As players progress across different islands, they will unlock new guilds, each offering unique strengths, weaknesses, and playstyles. The game also features councillors, relics, and other upgrades that can dramatically change how each run unfolds. With 21 possible guild combinations, players will have countless opportunities to experiment with strategies, discover powerful combinations, and push their city-building skills even further.
The developers have also made a free demo available ahead of launch, giving players an early chance to experience the game’s unique mix of fast-paced strategy and roguelike progression before its full release.
If you enjoy city builders with plenty of replayability and rewarding strategic choices, Combolands is shaping up to be one to keep an eye on later this August.
