Danger Runs Deep in Dive or Die: Children of Rain
Indie developer Drop Rate Studio and publisher Dear Villagers have officially confirmed that their upcoming 2D Lovecraftian underwater roguelite, Dive or Die: Children of Rain, will launch on July 21, 2026, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The announcement came out during Midsummer Night’s Scream and the AG French Direct, accompanied by a brand-new gameplay trailer that offers a closer look at the eerie adventure. You can check it out right below to get a glimpse of the brutal dangers ahead.
Set in a world consumed by the mysterious “Black Rain,” the game presents a bleak survival scenario where only a handful of survivors remain. Humanity’s fate now rests on a final challenge issued by the Rainmaker, an Eldritch entity. Players are tasked with recovering sacred idols hidden deep within the Abyssal Pool within 40 days. Or face total extinction in a final catastrophic flood.
Players take charge of a fragile survivor camp, balancing life on the surface with dangerous dives into the depths below. Each expedition comes with significant risks, including limited oxygen, physical harm, and the psychological toll of encountering terrifying creatures. On land, players must rebuild infrastructure, assign roles, and upgrade equipment, making tough decisions between immediate survival and long-term progress.
A playable demo is currently available for those eager to experience the game ahead of launch. Meanwhile, Dear Villagers is hosting a limited-time publisher sale on Steam, offering major discounts across its catalog.
With its striking premise and tense gameplay loop, Dive or Die: Children of Rain is shaping up to be a compelling addition to the roguelite genre when it arrives this July.
