A New Release Date for Dark Scrolls
Developer Doinksoft and publisher Devolver Digital have officially delayed Dark Scrolls, now setting its release for June 22, 2026, on PC and Nintendo Switch. The team originally planned to launch the game on May 28, but chose to push it back, playfully admitting that the timing was influenced by another major pixel-art title releasing around the same period. Despite the delay, the team reassures players that the extra wait will be worthwhile.
At its core, Dark Scrolls offers a vibrant mix of retro-inspired action and modern gameplay design. The game features nine playable characters, ranging from classic roles like warriors, mages, and thieves to more unconventional picks such as a dog, an alien, and even a saxophone-playing rat. Each character comes with unique abilities, personal objectives, and customizable trinkets, giving players the freedom to experiment with different playstyles.
The experience leans heavily into nostalgia, with detailed pixel art, arcade-style sound effects, and music that echoes classic titles. At the same time, smooth controls and updated mechanics ensure that gameplay feels responsive and accessible. The game features procedurally generated levels with handcrafted elements, keeping each run fresh with new layouts, enemies, and boss encounters.
Combat focuses on precision and quick reactions, rewarding players who can adapt on the fly. As players progress, they collect coins to unlock upgrades, powerful abilities, and helpful allies, allowing for increasingly chaotic and satisfying runs.
Overall, Dark Scrolls is shaping up to be a charming and replayable action experience. While the delay may be disappointing, the added polish and unique features suggest it will be worth the wait when it arrives in June.
