Warena Returns With Second Steam Playtest Running From 1-3 May

Enter the Battlefield in Warena Once More

Indie developer Part Time Monkey, alongside publisher Coyote Time Publishing, is launching a second public Steam playtest for Warena, its fast-paced real-time tactical card battler. The playtest will go live from May 1 to May 3, 2026, giving players another opportunity to experience the evolving project.

Created by Tuomas Erikoinen, known as the original character artist behind Angry Birds during his time at Rovio Entertainment, Warena blends real-time strategy with card-based mechanics in a competitive 1v1 format. Unlike traditional turn-based card games, both players act simultaneously, deploying units, casting spells, and managing a constantly regenerating mana pool while pushing toward the enemy base.

This latest playtest build introduces a range of fresh content and improvements. Players can experiment with new Runes and Hero Skills, allowing for more diverse strategies and playstyles. The developers also added Mid-match Storm and Wild Card events, bringing unexpected twists to battles. In addition, the update includes numerous bug fixes and balance adjustments aimed at refining the overall experience.

Beyond multiplayer, Warena also features a full single-player campaign. All cards are earnable through gameplay, with no pay-to-win elements or random card packs, keeping the focus firmly on skill and strategy.

Players interested in joining the playtest can request access directly via the game’s Steam page.

With steady updates and new mechanics being introduced, Warena continues to shape up as a promising entry in the tactical card-battler space, offering a competitive experience built around quick thinking and strategic execution.
