Solo developer Noah Dundas has announced a new horror visual novel titled WITCHHUNTER.exe for PC. It’s a dark narrative experience that draws inspiration from the paranoia and brutality surrounding the Salem witch trials. Designed to feel like a forgotten 1980s text adventure, the game blends psychological horror with unsettling meta elements that suggest a demonic presence haunting the software itself.

WITCHHUNTER.exe

In WITCHHUNTER.exe, players step into the role of a village priest tasked with confronting a supposed outbreak of witchcraft in a remote settlement. Acting as the leader of a witch-hunting inquisition, the player must investigate five women accused of practicing dark magic. The player tracks down and interrogates each suspect using harsh trials inspired by real historical inquisition practices. After gathering evidence and testimonies, the player decides who to spare and who to execute at the stake.

The gameplay combines traditional visual novel storytelling with dungeon-crawler-style exploration and combat mechanics. Dialogue choices and investigative decisions shape the narrative, creating branching storylines and multiple endings. The full experience is expected to run for roughly four to five hours, depending on the path taken.

However, the investigation is never entirely in the player’s control. Throughout the game, the Devil observes every decision and whispers into the priest’s mind. This mysterious voice often urges mercy toward the accused women, challenging the player’s beliefs and motivations.

How the player responds to these temptations plays a major role in determining the story’s outcome, raising unsettling questions about faith, justice, and the fear that fuels persecution.
