AREA 35 has officially announced a limited-time playtest for TINY METAL 2, giving fans their first hands-on experience with the tactical wargame sequel ahead of its full release. The playtest will run from April 2 to April 29 on Steam, with limited slots available for players who register early.

This marks the series’ return after TINY METAL: FULL METAL RUMBLE in 2019. And the upcoming test promises to offer a solid preview of what’s new. Players can dive into both single-player and local co-op modes, exploring expanded battlefields where every decision shapes the outcome. The playtest introduces new factions alongside returning ones, encouraging players to experiment with mixed-unit strategies and fresh combat systems. One standout addition is the Focus Fire mechanic, allowing multiple allied units to combine their attacks into a single strike.

Multiplayer is also a major focus this time around. Up to four players can team up for large-scale battles across diverse maps that span land, air, and now naval combat. For the first time in the series, players can command fleets that include battleships, destroyers, and submarines. These new features add a new layer of depth to battlefield tactics.

Attendees of PAX East will also get an early look at TINY METAL 2 at AREA 35’s booth, alongside other projects like Felicity’s Door and the newly revealed PROJECT BLITZ. The game is currently slated for release in spring 2027. So, make sure to keep an eye out!
