Survive the Shift in Shothop
Syntax Error Entertainment has officially unveiled the Steam page for its upcoming retro-inspired boomer shooter Shothop, offering a first look at the studio’s fast-paced and chaotic new project. The game is currently targeting a Q4 2026 release window, with a playable demo scheduled to arrive during Steam Next Fest this June.
Shothop leans heavily into classic shooter design while introducing modern movement-driven mechanics. The experience blends high-speed traversal with intense combat encounters, encouraging players to stay in constant motion while dealing with waves of robotic enemies. Armed primarily with a powerful shotgun, players can not only blast through foes but also use the weapon’s recoil to launch themselves across environments, chaining explosive jumps to maintain momentum.
Set in a chaotic, overrun sector, the game places players in the role of an unlikely worker who never signed up to be a hero. Instead of saving the multiverse, the job quickly turns into a desperate fight for survival as the portal defense network collapses. With no backup coming and management authorizing the use of “heavy-duty cleaning equipment,” the objective becomes simple yet unforgiving.
The core loop revolves around clearing out the robotic invasion, restoring critical systems, and pushing forward against relentless odds. With its mix of precision platforming, aggressive combat, and a tongue-in-cheek premise, Shothop is shaping up to be a stylish addition to the modern boomer shooter scene.
