Roll the Bones Unleashes Its Spell in a Steam Playtest

Craft the Best Spell-Loadout in Roll the Bones

Indie developer Shrimp Industries has officially opened a Steam playtest for its upcoming roguelite, Roll the Bones. Players can head to the game’s Steam page and click “Request Access” for a chance to jump into the action ahead of its planned Q1 2026 release. With a new trailer and updated demo already live, the studio is inviting fresh feedback as the game nears completion.

Roll the Bones is a fast-paced dungeon crawler built around a clever dice-based magic system. Before each run, players assemble a loadout of spell-infused dice, then roll their way through enemy-packed dungeon floors. Every die features six sides, each tied to a different spell, ranging from devastating attacks to unpredictable effects that can just as easily backfire. Choosing the right combination is essential for surviving the escalating chaos.

Spells vary dramatically in power, behavior, and even physics, allowing for creative builds and wild synergies. During a run, players can collect rare modifiers that further alter how spells function, encouraging experimentation and replayability. Critical rolls can dramatically shift the tide of battle, rewarding strategic planning and a bit of luck.

Beyond its core combat, the game introduces Artifacts, powerful abilities charged by building combo scores. Once activated, these abilities can unleash massive effects such as thunderstorms or meteor showers, adding an arcade-style punch to each run.

Following extensive demo feedback, Shrimp Industries has expanded and refined the experience. Now, the team is looking for new players to put the nearly finished game through its paces before launch.
