The Return of Poker Night at the Inventory
Fifteen years after its original debut, Poker Night at the Inventory is finally making its long-awaited return. First released by Telltale Games in 2010, the cult classic title blended Texas Hold’em poker with sharp comedy, pitting players against a lineup of iconic characters from across pop culture. Pulled from digital storefronts in 2019, the game is now reviving thanks to Skunkape Games, a studio formed by former Telltale developers who worked on the original release.
Skunkape’s remastered edition of Poker Night at the Inventory launches on March 5, arriving on Steam as well as PlayStation and Nintendo Switch for the first time. The project traces its roots back to Telltale’s earliest experiment, Telltale Texas Hold’em from 2005. Then it was famously developed in just three months by a small team that would later go on to create The Walking Dead: A Telltale Series and The Wolf Among Us.
The game throws players into a chaotic poker tournament against Max from Sam and Max, Strong Bad of Homestar Runner, Tycho Brahe from Penny Arcade, and Team Fortress 2’s Heavy. Matches are full of constant banter, absurd humor, and personality-driven trash talk that made the original a fan favorite.
The remaster features upgraded visuals and lighting, refined poker mechanics, new unlockables, and several quality of life improvements. Skunkape updated the game using the same engine and development pipeline employed for its recent Sam and Max remasters.
Fan favorite Team Fortress 2 item unlocks also return, allowing Steam players to win usable TF2 gear at the table. To celebrate the release, Skunkape has also launched a Poker Night-themed Arts and Crafts Contest, with submissions open until February 27 and winners announced on March 4.
