Rev Your Engine for WheelMates
Developer FireVolt has officially announced that WheelMates, its cooperative adventure starring tiny RC cars, is targeting a 2026 release window. The game will be coming out on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. To give players an early look at the experience, the team has also confirmed a first developer-led playtest on Steam, scheduled to take place in February.
Set inside the sprawling home of an eccentric and mysteriously absent scientist, WheelMates invites two players to explore a strange household filled with secrets. Progress depends entirely on teamwork, as players control a pair of remote-controlled cars to navigate the environment. All while uncovering what happened to the house’s owner.
The game emphasizes cooperation over competition, removing timers and time pressure in favor of relaxed, shared problem-solving. Whether played online or in split-screen co-op, players can explore at their own pace. Along the way, they will discover hidden surprises, story elements, and cleverly designed puzzles.
Despite their small size, the RC cars are equipped with experimental gadgets that expand how players interact with the environment. Jump boosters allow cars to clear gaps and reach elevated areas, grappling hooks connect to distant points, and magnet wheels enable traversal across metal surfaces. Magnetic tools also let players manipulate objects from afar, opening new routes and puzzle solutions.
Each room acts as a compact sandbox, packed with mechanical challenges, secret paths, and narrative details. Drawing inspiration from Metroidvania design, WheelMates encourages backtracking, rewarding players with newly accessible areas and solutions as they unlock additional abilities.
Influenced by classic RC games like Re-Volt and modern puzzle-platformers, FireVolt aims to deliver a fresh cooperative adventure where teamwork, creativity, and exploration take center stage.
