Recital of the Heart Public Playtest Is Now Live on Steam

Start Your Adventure in Recital of the Heart

Honeypot Games LLC has launched a public Steam playtest for Recital of the Heart, an artistic action adventure game coming to PC. The playtest offers an early look at a top-down Metroidvania set in a surreal mirror dimension where works of fiction come to life. Historical figures, fictional characters, and the lingering phantoms of their creators inhabit this world. Players follow Gregory on a labyrinthian journey as he confronts obsessive and disturbed antagonists to recover mirror shards. All while striving to return to the real world and reunite with his love, Eliza.

Cofounder of the studio, Kiefer Nemeth, explains that the Recital of the Heart originated from a childhood dream that stayed with him for decades. When he later shared the idea with cofounder Dante, the concept finally took shape. Hence, making the game a long-awaited creative project.

The game features a top-down perspective focused on exploration, combat, puzzles, and narrative. Encounters range from strategic one-on-one battles to chaotic situations filled with bullets that must be dodged, blocked, or deflected. As players progress, they unlock new brushes for close-range combat and magical instruments for ranged attacks. The game also features tempos that enhance movement, each offering distinct mechanics that encourage tactical flexibility.

Players can further customize their playstyle through Flourishes, which modify attacks with effects such as additional projectiles or bullet deflection. Gregory is accompanied by Kand, a companion who provides guidance and humor while also serving as a throwable weapon and defensive tool.

Developed by a two-person team, Honeypot Games is seeking player feedback to help shape the final experience and invites players to take part in the Steam playtest of Recital of the Heart.
