DON’T STOP SMILING Has Launched Its Steam Store Page

Just Make Sure You DON’T STOP SMILING

Independent developer Smiley Dog Studio has launched the Steam store page for DON’T STOP SMILING, a first-person psychological horror game built around an unsettling idea. The player’s own face becomes the controller. Using real-time facial recognition through a webcam, the game constantly monitors the player’s expression. The instant the player stops smiling, the experience ends.

Set inside a deserted Japanese public high school, DON’T STOP SMILING places players in an eerie, looping hallway inspired by corridor-based horror in the style of P.T. The environment subtly shifts as players move forward, growing more disturbing with each loop. Throughout it all, players must maintain a smile, even as the atmosphere becomes increasingly uncomfortable.

There are no monsters to outrun and no combat systems to master. Failure comes from a single source. Losing your smile means losing the game. This rule turns a simple facial expression into a source of constant tension. It pushes players to suppress fear, unease, and instinctive reactions.

Facial recognition is woven directly into progression. Smiling and small changes in expression influence how the game responds, making the player’s emotional state an active part of the experience rather than something hidden behind a controller.

The game’s puzzles further heighten this discomfort. Progress often requires actions that feel morally wrong or emotionally troubling, such as participating in harmful situations involving others. These moments intentionally evoke guilt and disgust, creating a direct conflict between what the player feels and what the game demands. DON’T STOP SMILING uses this clash to explore psychological horror in a deeply personal and unsettling way. So, are you ready for a unique experience that demands absolute resolution not to smile?
