Octopath Traveler Series Has Sold Over 6 Million Copies Worldwide

The Journey Continues for Octopath Traveler

Square Enix’s HD 2D role-playing series Octopath Traveler has reached another major sales milestone, continuing its steady rise since its debut. The publisher recently confirmed that the franchise has now sold more than six million copies worldwide across all platforms. This marks a significant jump from December last year, when total sales stood at five million.

The update arrives shortly after the release of Octopath Traveler 0 on all the major platforms earlier this month. Square Enix counts both physical shipments and digital purchases in the total, reflecting the series’ broad appeal across formats and regions. To celebrate the milestone, the company has also shared new commemorative artwork and announced a limited-time sale covering several entries in the series.

Octopath Traveler first launched as a Switch exclusive in 2018, introducing its now signature HD 2D visual style that blends pixel art characters with detailed three-dimensional environments. Since then, the franchise has expanded with multiple mainline releases and a mobile prequel, building a dedicated global audience.

The latest entry, Octopath Traveler 0, adds several new ideas to the familiar formula. Players create their own hero using a custom character creator and take on the task of restoring a ruined hometown. Progress depends heavily on a new townbuilding system, which ties narrative growth to player choices and development.

Square Enix has also made it easier for newcomers to jump in. A playable demo is currently available, and progress from the demo carries over to the full version. This release follows a recent update for Octopath Traveler 0, further refining the experience as the series continues to grow.
