Factorio Is Getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

An Upgraded Edition of Factorio

Factorio is heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 with a new edition, offering a free upgrade for existing owners. Originally released on the Switch in 2022, the game will now take advantage of the Switch 2’s enhanced hardware. For players who do not already own the title, a paid bundle will include both the base game and the Switch 2 Edition upgrade.

The upgraded edition brings several visual and performance improvements. The game will run at the screen’s native 1080p resolution, and when docked, it supports up to 4K (2160p). Variable refresh rate support ensures smoother gameplay, while some higher-quality animations and sprites enhance the overall visual experience. Loading times are faster, and the game allows players to build significantly larger bases. Additionally, the Switch 2 Edition introduces mouse mode support, letting players use either the left or right Joy-Con as a mouse through the console’s Joy-Con Mouse Sensor.

Factorio: Space Age is also coming to the Switch 2 as DLC, priced at $35 or the regional equivalent. The content will mirror what is available on the PC version. While the developers are aiming to release both the Switch 2 Edition and Space Age by December, this is not yet an official date. Updates on the release schedule will be shared once confirmed.

For players interested in the development process, the creators have documented the game’s Journey to the Switch 2 on the official Factorio blog. Additional details about the one-year anniversary of Space Age are also available there, offering insights into the ongoing evolution of this popular construction and management game on Nintendo’s latest console.

Factorio is also available on PC via Steam, so make sure to check it out.
