A Big Win for Star Birds
Star Birds has soared to impressive heights just days after its Early Access debut on September 10, 2025. By September 15, the game had collected 620 Steam reviews, with an incredible 95% of them positive, earning it the coveted “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating. Steam DB now lists Star Birds as the number one Hot Release and the eleventh most Popular Release. This signals a remarkable start for the relaxing asteroid base-building and resource management title.
Developer Toukana and animation studio kurzgesagt have marked this milestone with some special community rewards. Thanks to a collaboration with Square Glade Games, creators of Outbound, players can unlock an Outbound Van miniature for the game’s main menu. In addition, a discounted Star Birds and Timberborn bundle is now available on Steam, created in partnership with Mechanistry. Timberborn, the building and automation genre hit with over a million copies sold, makes a fitting companion for a bundle.
The developers emphasize that this Early Access phase is just the beginning. Several content updates are already planned, promising new features, levels, and refinements for the 1.0 release. The full release may take place between six and twelve months after its Early Access debut.
Star Birds invites players to discover and mine asteroids, build intricate production networks, and guide a flock of spacefaring birds through interstellar adventures. Its vibrant, distinctive 3D art style, heavily inspired by kurzgesagt’s signature visuals, adds to its charm. With its mix of exploration, resource management, and strategic planning, Star Birds is shaping up to be one of this year’s standout indie releases. Not only that, its early success suggests a bright future among space-themed management games.
