A Big Win for Star Birds
The demo for Star Birds, a space factory-building game developed by Toukana Interactive (Dorfromantik) in partnership with Kurzgesagt, made a splash with its launch during Steam Next Fest on June 9.
Within just 24 hours, the demo attracted over 40,000 players. That number has since surged past 100,000, placing Star Birds among the top 10 most played demos of the event with a peak concurrent player count of more than 3,000.

In just a few days, the game has earned an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, currently sitting at 96 percent with over 800 reviews. Players are praising its satisfying mechanics, building and connecting factories, mining asteroid resources, and optimizing production chains. The game’s sleek 3D visual style and animated story cutscenes carry the signature Kurzgesagt flair, which fans have warmly welcomed.
The demo offers a strong first look at what’s in store for the full release. It includes two campaign levels and a procedurally generated bonus expedition that can be replayed for a fresh challenge. Steam achievements are also included, along with a hidden code, getmug25, that unlocks a secret menu item.
With over 340,000 wishlists, Star Birds has secured a spot in the top 100 global Steam wishlists. An Early Access release is expected later this year.
