Battlefield 6 Expands Map Creation With Revamped Portal Mode

Battlefield 6 Just Got More Exciting

DICE and EA are gearing up for the release of Battlefield 6 with major improvements to the franchise’s map-building tools. Building on Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode, the upcoming game introduces a significantly upgraded toolset designed to give players even more creative control.

A new trailer reveals how the overhauled Portal mode allows players to build, modify, and share custom maps with expanded options. A key addition is a spatial editor powered by the Godot engine, enabling users to move and reshape map elements directly. Portal also supports custom scripting, letting players adjust AI behavior, design unique user interfaces, and set up NPC combat scenarios. All player-created experiences can be shared in the community section.

Gameplay modifiers will give users further flexibility, including features like one-shot kills or disabled weapon types. Importantly, experience points and player progression remain active in Portal mode, ensuring that custom matches still contribute to overall advancement.

At launch, Battlefield 6 will feature nine maps, with environments such as New York, Egypt, and Gibraltar. Destructible elements return in full force, allowing large sections of the map to change mid-battle, though not every structure is destructible. The game will also reintroduce the traditional Battlefield classes: Assault, Medic, Support, and Recon, each with specific weapons and gadgets. A single-player campaign is also included.

Battlefield 6 is set to release on October 10 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Preorders are already open, and an open beta begins August 7, continuing through various periods during the month. If you want to find out more about the game, check out our preview right here!
