Aggelos 2 Officially Announced, Launching in 2026 With New Realms and Enhanced Pixel Art

Embark On an Epic Journey in Aggelos 2

PQube has officially revealed Aggelos 2, the much-anticipated follow-up to the cult favorite 2D action platformer Aggelos. Developed once again by Wonderboy Bobi and co-published with long-time partner PixelHeart, the game will release digitally in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Furthermore, physical editions are also planned for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Building on the foundation of the original, Aggelos 2 introduces a bold shift in both style and mechanics. The visual design moves from its charming 8-bit aesthetic to richly animated 16-bit pixel art. It brings a new level of detail and atmosphere to the world.

One of the most notable features in Aggelos 2 is its dual-realm mechanic. Players can now shift between powers of Light and Darkness and switch realms using special portals. This dynamic system plays a crucial role in both exploration and combat, encouraging fast reflexes and creative thinking as players navigate increasingly complex environments.

The blend of classic platforming and modern gameplay ideas gives Aggelos 2 a fresh identity. All while staying true to its retro roots. With its expanded scope, refined mechanics, and striking visual upgrade, the sequel aims to offer a deeper and more strategic Metroidvania experience for fans and newcomers alike.

This evolution to 16-bit is exactly the right approach to this sequel. “We’ve always had a real soft spot for Aggelos and the response from fans over the years has shown us we’re not alone.” says Dave Pain, CEO of PQube and he follows on to add “It’s been brilliant to work with PixelHeart again to revisit this world and build something even more ambitious “Aggelos 2 is not just a sequel — it’s a true evolution that still stays true to what made the original so loved.”
