Here’s the translated message from Nintendo’s Japanese social media accounts:

Shuntaro Furukawa: “This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”

Furukawa shared that fans will hear more about the successor, including compatibility with the current system, sometime in the future.

This official update comes after ongoing rumors about a “successor” model with backward compatibility. The company previously shared that its services and account systems will continue into the next generation. The aim is to build a lasting connection with players.

Nintendo confirmed this week that plans for the Switch successor are still set, with an announcement expected by the end of the financial year in March 2025.
