Lil Guardsman Talks Tone in “When Cozy Met Chaos” Blog Post

Going a Lil Deeper

The themes that make up a game can be just as important to the story as the plot itself. Obviously, the plot is the vehicle for the themes. Yet, they aren’t always blatant. Especially in a kingdom as cozy and chaotic as this. Today, Indie Game Developer Hilltop Studios, in collaboration with Versus Evil, is giving players a look at the themes of their point-and-click adventure, Lil Guardsman, in a new blog post. The blog post, titled “When Cozy Met Chaos”, explore how Lil Guardsman fits and doesn’t fit into the cozy genre of games that have emerged. For instance, games like Stardew Valley and Spiritfarer  create a space for players to feel relaxed and enjoy the environments the games portray. Cozy games aren’t intense.

Lil Guardsman

Lil Guardsman can fit in this description. It’s point-and-click deduction narrative allows players to enter and protect a kingdom. Of course, this means they will need to interrogate a wide and eccentric cast of characters that are attempting to enter the city. This gameplay means that players will need to deduce an entrants true intentions or risk everything. Importantly, the game’s art style, and point-and-click gameplay invites a relaxing atmosphere while the overall idea may not.

The blog post informs players that Lil Guardsman includes exploration and a score for their shifts as a guard. Of course, a scoring system is not quite relaxing, yet the designation will be up to the players. In fact, check out a gameplay trailer for a glimpse of the game in action. View the trailer below.

Lil Guardsman is releasing later at a later date on PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox Series consoles.
