Beyond Good & Evil: A Surprise Appearance Leads to Excitement

Beyond Good & Evil Developers Unveil Remastered Action-Adventure Game Following Unintentional Early Debut on Ubisoft+

In a surprising turn of events, the Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition made an unexpected appearance on Ubisoft+ on November 28, leading to an official announcement from Ubisoft. The action-adventure game remaster is now confirmed to be in development, with a planned release in the early months of the upcoming year.

The Beyond Good & Evil Twitter/X account acknowledged that players had accessed an “early development version” of the game, unintentionally released on Ubisoft+. Reports from Eurogamer indicate that individuals had the chance to explore this version, with an Xbox Store page briefly surfacing for the 20th Anniversary Edition. The listing promised enhanced features such as “4K and 60fps with improved graphics, controls, and audio, along with brand-new autosave and cross-save features.”

While the accidental leak may have given fans a sneak peek, Ubisoft intends to unveil more details about Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition as 2024 approaches. Earlier leaks in August, prompted by an ESRB rating, suggested that the remaster would be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. However, official confirmation for these platforms is yet to be provided.

Originally released in November 2003 alongside Prince of Persia: Sands of Time on PS2, Beyond Good & Evil received acclaim for its visual appeal and storytelling. GameSpot’s Jeff Gerstmann praised the game but noted its short length and repetitive nature, suggesting these factors slightly diminished its overall impact.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel since the game’s announcement in 2008, with a reimagined prequel making its debut at E3 2017. Tragically, the creative director of Beyond Good & Evil 2, Emile Morel, passed away earlier this year, marking a poignant chapter in the game’s development journey.
